Autonomous and driver-assistance RC vehicle

A small-scale vehicle integrating sensing, driver inputs, and layered control behaviour.

THE PROJECT

Mechanical design, electronics, controls, and fabrication come together differently in every build. This record describes the work documented for this project.

What was developed

Developed an Arduino-based RC vehicle through a series of increasingly integrated functions: line following, Bluetooth control, object-distance estimation, speed sensing, traffic-light detection, object following, and automatic braking.

A Pixy2 camera was calibrated to estimate distance from apparent object width. Traffic-light logic treated red, yellow, and green differently; the yellow-light decision considered both distance and vehicle speed. In the final sensing approach, camera estimates covered longer distances and IR sensing handled closer objects. Work included vehicle assembly, sensor and bracket mounting, calibration, testing, and control code.

PROJECT NOTE

Integrated sensing and control behaviours were developed and tested on a small-scale vehicle.
